Simon Golub & Sons, Inc. (SGS) was founded by Simon Golub in 1922, and throughout its existence, the company has developed an unsurpassed reputation for trust, quality and service, establishing itself as one of the most respected companies in the Jewelry Industry.
Through the end of World War II, Simon managed the company as a wholesale distributor of loose diamonds, finished jewelry and related products to independent retail jewelry stores located exclusively in the Pacific Northwest.
In 1946, after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Simon’s son, Stan Golub, entered the family business. He quickly established SGS as a much stronger presence in the industry by acquiring the strongest lines available to wholesale jewelers at the time, including, in 1969, the powerful Seiko watch distributorship for the 6 Northwest states and Northern California. With Seiko as the anchor, the company embarked on a steady period of growth throughout the 1980’s. Stan Golub remained CEO until 1985 and Chairman until his retirement in 1989.
In 1972 Stan Golub’s son-in law, Andy Harris, joined the firm. He became President in 1982, CEO in 1985 and Chairman in 1989. During the1980’s SGS began expanding its traditional jewelry business to other parts of the U.S. and currently has customers in every state and in Canada.
In 2007, 85% of the company was acquired by a close strategic partner and diamond Sight Holder, Shrenuj Co. Ltd., making SGS vertically intergraded from direct diamond sourcing and cutting, jewelry manufacturing and its distribution system directly to retail jewelry stores. Almost all senior management stayed with the company after the acquisition and two senior people from the Shrenuj organization have since relocated to Seattle to help run the company. In 2010, Nihar Parikh was appointed as the 4th CEO of SGS since 1922.
Shortly after acquiring SGS, Shrenuj consolidated all 3 of its existing U.S. entities into the SGS platform in Seattle, including C&A Diamonds, a branded bridal and loose diamond company from Ohio. Currently SGS is divided into 3 divisions, each concentrating on a unique segment of the jewelry industry.
The Independent Division. (JLY)
Dating back to the founding of the company in 1922, this division concentrates on the Independent Jewelry trade, with about 2000 accounts serviced by 15 sales people and 3 sales managers. SGS belongs to both RJO and IJO, the two most significant buying groups for the independent trade. SGS is well know for the most outstanding customer service in the industry and for six of the last seven years was voted “Supplier of the Year” by the IJO retail membership and has been a runner-up for a similar award in the RJO group.
SGS is the exclusive importer and distributor for the Lorenzo Silver/18 karat fashion line featuring the finest quality semi-precious, sold in 600 authorized retail jewelers. SGS is also the exculsive United States importer and distributor for the Hot Diamonds fashion line in Sterling Silver, with over 800 authorized dealers.
C&A Diamonds: Branded Bridal & Loose Diamond Division
C&A Diamond’s founded in 1990 by Matt Carlozzi was located in Youngstown, Ohio specializing in certified loose diamonds and fashion diamond jewelry servicing retail jewelers throughout the eastern portion of the United States. In 2003 Shrenuj and C & A formed a Joint Venture and began developing two branded bridal lines which filled a void in the Shrenuj bridal business portfolio in the USA
In 2005 Shrenuj/C & A in an effort to maximize the direct sourcing of loose diamonds, launched two Branded Bridal lines. The Caro 74 Diamond and Bridal Collection and the Valina Bridal Collection.
The Caro 74 Diamond & Bridal Collection features a patented 74 faceted cut diamond which is cut as small as .02 points used in a bridal collection of over 200 high quality engagement ring styles as well as center diamonds ranging in size from one half carat to three carats certified for quality by GIA and for Brilliance by Gem-Ex.
The Valina Bridal Collection contains over 250 engagement rings with matching wedding bands providing exclusive dealers with a high quality designer bridal line without the designer price.
In an effort to consolidate their U.S. operations, Shrenuj in 2008 merged C & A Diamonds with Simon Golub & Sons and moved operations to Seattle, Washington where Carlozzi remains President of the Diamond & Bridal Division. Currently the Diamond & Bridal Division is expanding their customer base throughout the United States and Canada with their own dedicated national sales force and has introduced The Jewel Pad Touch Technology which is an application using the popular IPad which supports the Caro 74 Diamond & Bridal Collection in addition to the Newly launched Lume Brand in USA.
